Art Collaboration Kyoto (ACK) is an art fair held in Kyoto with collaboration at its core. One of the leading art fairs in Japan specializing in contemporary art, Art Collaboration Kyoto presents unique collaborations forged between Japanese and international galleries; government and private sectors; and fine arts and other cultural spheres in Kyoto. Hosted in the Kyoto International Conference Center, the fair consists of two sections: “Gallery Collaborations”, which pairs a local Japanese gallery with its international peer in a shared booth; and “Kyoto Meetings”, which features artists with distinct connections to Kyoto. Beyond the fair, special exhibitions and public programs are held in Kyoto City.

Kasmin and Sho + 1 are pleased to present an exhibition of new works by the painter Cynthia Daignault and the photographic artist Naoki Kimura.
For this her first exhibition in Japan, Daignault will be expanding on her recent Bibliography series to exhibit a number of new works inspired by her personal collection of black-and-white photo books. Drawing on the photographic work of Robert Adams and Masahisa Fukase, Daignault’s paintings provide calm and minimalist reflections on the nature of images as objects of transcendence and recollection. These paintings will further expand Daignault’s career as an artist who explores the influences of history, events, and shared cultural memories.

Kimura’s monochrome works, based on a minimalist aesthetic and deeply rooted in the spirit and philosophy of Zen, focus on ordinary moments and scenes from daily life, capturing the essence and the quietness that lurks within them as objects of beauty. By employing photography not merely as a visual record, but also as a means of embodying inner insights, Kimura explores the simple laws and truths that lie concealed within the complex world. Through these works, we wish to provide viewers with an opportunity to look inside themselves and rediscover the beauty and serenity that can be found in everyday life.

Overview:.
Naoki Kimura is a photographic artist from Nishijin, Kyoto, Japan, who specializes in monochrome original print works. he moved to the U.S. in 1987 and currently lives and works in New York and Tokyo. While most of his work is based in Europe, in recent years he has also exhibited works featuring Japanese landscapes.

This exhibition, titled "Kouin" (light and shade), presents a group of recent works that capture the beautiful momentary scenes created by light in the course of daily life. During this season of the International Photography Festival held in various locations in Kyoto, Kyoto Tsutaya will also pursue the beauty and potential of photography as an artistic expression.
